Trail 3 or the Falls Canyon trail in McCormick's Creek State Park is a prime example of how terrain and hills can make a short hike seem much longer. On the trail information it says rugged and they are right. It is only 1 mile, but it seemed like 2 or 3. Conner and I went there in May of 2014. He was 7 at the time. The beginning and end of the trail is well marked. The middle portion of the trail along the creek is not. You just follow the creek downstream. This hike would be ideal in summer or fall. We went in May so the creek was very high so we were walking right on the edge of the creek and in the creek at times. We crossed the creek 3 times, so our shoes were soaked. If the creek was down this would have been much easier. The stairs that lead out of the canyon was a little hard on him also. I do not know how many stairs there was, but it was a lot. After the hike Explorer Conner told me "this is the hardest, but most fun hike we have been on yet." If you prefer you can just go to the falls and back out, which would be good for little ones. If you do the whole trail loop I wouldn't take a child under 5. It is a great hike, you feel like you have went on an adventure after you are done.
