This website is designed to help parents decide where to take their children out in nature hiking. There are many links, maps, pictures, and my personal experiences on each hiking trail.
A little about myself, my name is Greg and I live in Pike County Indiana. Indiana is not known for hiking trails and great natural features.
I am not a person who has gone on big overnight backpacking trips or really long trips. Hopefully when my boys are older I can start those experiences.
I started hiking a little when I was a kid around 10 or 11. We had a woods behind our house and after school I would
go exploring in the woods about every day. I stopped hiking when we moved to town, but I always really enjoyed it as a kid. I did a
little hiking in college, but just on occasion. When I graduated college I started a job with a land surveying company. Many of the jobs we did, and
that enjoyed the most, were surveying through and around forest and woods. I always felt on many of these jobs that I was getting paid to hike.
When my wife and I had our two boys, Conner & Maddox, I decided to try and get them involved in hiking. I noticed when trying to
find places to go that there was not much information out there for kid friendly hikes here in Indiana. So I started getting information,
pictures, ect. to take a stab at building a website. I had never built one before and wasn't even sure how to go about it.
I wanted my website to be a reference for parents to find hiking information for their family here in Indiana. I wanted it to be a one stop shop in a way.
I wanted them to find reviews or stories about trails, pictures of kids on the trails, maps of parks, links to different websites & information that
could help them. I also wanted to share my family experiences on the trails with some of the tips I have learned over the years.
To me the most important part of hiking with your kids is the quality time you get to spend with them. You are taking them to places
that they could never see from a car. They may be able to see pictures of the places but it is not the same as actually going there. And the things
they can learn and that you can teach them are things they will remember for the rest of their lives. If they really enjoy it, it could be a family
tradition a few generations down the line.
I really hope the information on here is helpful and I would love to hear back from you about what I have on here, what you think should be on here, and hopefully this website makes life on the trail a little easier.
Thanks,
Greg
